What is Next for the UFC Welterweight Division?

A lot of stuff has happened for the UFC Welterweight division in the past week. Last Saturday, Kamaru Usman defended his belt for the sixth time. He won via unanimous decision to Colby Covington. Afterwards, Colby Covington called out Jorge Masvidal. He predicted that “Street Judas” would pull out of his fight with Leon Edwards to fight him. On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Gamebred would have to pull out of the fight due to an undisclosed injury. Coincidence or not?

Well, a lot of fighters have put themselves into this. Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor were the “big ones.” In the past couple of months, the pride of Ireland and the BMF champion have had some beef. Some people would say that Conor McGregor is the next step for Jorge. Personally, I think he is going to do TUF, The Ultimate Fighter, with Covington. Covington said after his fight with Usman that his foot was probably broken. Since Masvidal also has an undisclosed injury, they could do TUF while they both heal and then they could fight after.

So that explains those two, but what about Usman and Leon Edwards? I think Leon Edwards should fight Khamzat Chimaev. Yes, this is a controversial statement because a lot of people think that Leon Edwards deserves a title shot. He just fought Nate Diaz, an unranked welterweight, and Leon almost got finished at the end. Nate Diaz got beat by Masvidal who got beat by Usman. This means that most likely Usman would beat Leon. This fight also wouldn’t be very good. I think Edwards should fight Khamzat Chimaev and the winner of that fight should get a title shot.

Welterweight is a crazy weight class and who knows what is next, but I think these are the best things that could happen to it.
